Myers
Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
Based on over 50 years of research and development,
the MBTI is the most widely used instrument for understanding
normal personality differences. Because it explains basic patterns
in human functioning, the MBTI is used for a wide variety of purposes,
including:
- Self-understanding and development
- Career development and exploration
- Organisation development
- Team building
- Management and leadership training
- Stress awareness and reactions to stress
- Problem solving
- Counselling and coaching
- Communication
Taking the MBTI inventory and receiving feedback
will help you identify your unique gifts. The information enhances
understanding of yourself, your motivations, your natural strengths
and your potential areas for growth. It will also help you appreciate
people who differ from you.
MBTI and coaching
MBTI can be used as part of a formal coaching
session to help an individual:
- Identify and develop his or her strengths
- Recognise his or her blind spots and learn to compensate for
them
- Develop strategies for career or personal development.
Whilst each coaching scenario will be different,
they will generally follow a similar structure:
- Step One - Assess type using the MBTI inventory
- Step Two - Determine strengths and challenges
- Step Three - Evaluate individual needs
- Step Four - Assess skills and interests
- Step Five - Develop an action plan
Taking the MBTI
The MBTI questionnaire can be taken by hand
or online. Once your profile has been determined you will receive
feedback about what it all means. This feedback will be tailored
to your individual requirements.
The MBTI questionnaire takes between 30 and
40 minutes to complete. Feedback and coaching sessions last approximately
two hours.
Group sessions, for up to 16 people, can also
be arranged - typically these last between half and one day, depending
on the group's requirements.
