The challenge of change is one
facing every organisation -
and successful organisations will depend on the skills of effective
change agents, consultants, and leaders. Within organisations more
and more professional and technical staff are being asked to act
as internal consultants, which requires a unique blend of practical
and incisive skills and the confidence to use them. The emphasis
of this programme is on the interpersonal skills required to be
a successful internal consultant, and the practical consultancy
tools and techniques needed to complement them. |

| Training method: |
Highly interactive and participative
format that will give delegates plenty of opportunity to practise
a range of tools and techniques. This will be accompanied by formal
input, group discussions and debate. |
| Evaluation method: |
Variety of formal and informal
practical exercises.
Assessment will be provided in various ways including observation
of delegates practising techniques. Constructive feedback will be
provided by the trainer and other delegates, and individual development
plans will be suggested where required. |
| Course content: |
- Understand the role of the internal consultant and the consultancy
process
- Recognise the stages in the consultancy cycle and the skills
required at each stage
- Identify their preferred consultancy style and develop a flexible
approach to consulting
- Review the different types of change and their impact on the
way people work
- Identify people's responses to change and help them work constructively
through change
- Identify and manage key stakeholders
- Listen, question and provide feedback in a consultancy situation
- Use a variety of diagnosis and analysis techniques to aid
the consultancy process
- State the importance of ethical considerations, groundrules
and contracts when acting as an internal consultant
- Use a variety of influencing and negotiating techniques to
achieve positive outcomes on internal consultancy projects (three-day
version only)
- Act as an internal consultant on a number of case studies
(three-day version only)
